Shared Prayer List App: What to Look For, and How Knelt Does It

A shared prayer list app lets a small group, a family or a prayer team keep one list that everyone sees on their own phone: add a request, and it appears for the others; mark it answered, and everyone sees that too. Most of the choice comes down to three questions: who has to sign up, who can see the requests, and what happens to them when someone leaves. This page covers those questions, how Knelt's small-group list answers them, and the paper alternatives if an app is the wrong fit.

Do you need an app at all?

Many groups do well with a printed sheet. If your group meets weekly and requests change slowly, a small-group request sheet printed for each meeting, or a set of prayer cards, is free and private. A group text thread is the other common answer; it works until the requests are buried under logistics and nobody can find who asked for what three weeks ago.

An app earns its place when requests come in between meetings, when members want to pray through the list on their own during the week, or when you want a record of what was answered.

What to look for in a shared prayer list app

QuestionWhy it matters
Does every member need an account? Each sign-up loses people, especially older members. An email or phone number is also personal data held by someone else.
How do people join?A code or QR shown at the meeting is simpler than an invite email. Check how long the code lasts and whether it can be reused by someone it was forwarded to.
Who can see the requests?Prayer requests are often medical, family or financial. Look for a group that is private by default, with no public feed and no search.
What is shared and what stays on my phone? Some apps share everything; better ones share the list and keep your personal notes, reminders and journal private.
What happens when someone leaves?Does the leaver keep a copy? Do the requests they added vanish for everyone?
Can you print it?Not everyone in a group uses a phone. A one-page sheet for the meeting keeps them included.
What does it cost, and for whom?Leader pays, everyone pays, or free with ads. Ads on a prayer list are worth noticing.

How Knelt's small-group prayer list works

Knelt is a private prayer journal and prayer list app with no account. Any one list on the leader's phone can become a group list:

  1. The leader shares a list. On the list's page, Share with a group shows an 8-character join code, the same code as a QR, and a link to send. A code works once and for ten minutes, so a forwarded code is useless later; the leader taps Show a new code for the next person.
  2. Members join with the code. They type it or scan the leader's phone. No email, no phone number, no sign-up. The group arrives as a new list on their phone; their own lists are never touched.
  3. Everyone adds and prays. Requests, the verse attached to them, how many times they have been prayed, and answered status travel to everyone. Reminders, Skip for today, dated updates and your journal stay on your own phone.
  4. Answered prayers are kept. Mark a request answered and it moves to the dated Answered page on every phone in the group.
  5. Print for the meeting. The leader prints This week's requests as a one-page PDF, or the whole list as prayer cards.
  6. Leaving is clean. Leave the group keeps the list on your phone as a personal copy.

What it costs, and what it stores

Before you share a request: ask the person whether it can go on the group list, and in how much detail. "Pray for Anna's family" is enough when the detail is not yours to share.

Try it with your group. One person with Knelt Plus shares a list at the next meeting; everyone else installs Knelt free and scans the code. Running it week to week is covered in how to run a small-group prayer list.

Questions

Is there a shared prayer list app with no sign-up?

Knelt's small-group prayer list needs no account for anyone. Members join with an 8-character code or a QR from the leader's phone; no email or phone number is collected.

Is a shared prayer list private?

In Knelt a group has no directory and no search, so it cannot be found without a live code, and a code works once for ten minutes. The shared list is stored on Adelyons' server so the group's phones can see it; your other lists, journal and reminders stay on your phone.

How much does a shared prayer list cost?

In Knelt, joining a group is free. Creating one needs Knelt Plus. A printed small-group request sheet is a free alternative.
