Vertical jump norms · ages 8–69
Vertical jump percentile calculator by age and sex
Enter an age, sex and vertical jump to see the share of people the same age who jump lower, from Statistics Canada's force-plate percentiles for ages 8 to 69. A 17.3 in vertical is the median for boys aged 14–15; 20.1 in is the 80th percentile.
Vertical jump percentiles by age
Each row is an age band from the Canadian Health Measures Survey. P50 is the median: half the people that age jump higher, half lower. P80 is what this page calls a good jump, and P95 is the top 5%. Values are inches, with centimetres beneath.

How to read your percentile
Your percentile is the share of people of your sex and age band whose vertical jump is lower than yours. Between two published points the page interpolates in a straight line and rounds, so 72 means a little more than seven in ten.
The survey measured one countermovement jump from standing on a force plate, with an arm swing allowed. Other methods (a wall-and-chalk reach test, a jump mat, a phone video) do not always agree with a force plate on the same jump, so compare like with like, and see how the methods differ.
This is not a leaderboard. It compares one number with a national sample of the general population, not with other users and not with trained athletes. For athletes, compare with the NFL and NBA combine by position.

"Normative-referenced percentile values for physical fitness among Canadians", Health Reports 30(10), 2019, Table 4. A nationally representative sample aged 8 to 69; one two-leg countermovement jump on a force plate, arm swing allowed, best of three trials. Statistics Canada Open Licence.
- NFL targets
- Median vertical jump by position at the NFL Scouting Combine, 2000–2026, from the nflverse combine data (6,790 recorded jumps). Positions grouped as listed in the table.
- NBA targets
- No-step (standing) vertical jump of drafted players at the NBA Draft Combine, 2000–2018, mean by position: Cui Y et al., "Key anthropometric and physical determinants for different playing positions during NBA draft combine test", Frontiers in Psychology 10:2359 (2019), CC BY. Converted from centimetres.
Between two published points the percentile is interpolated in a straight line and rounded to a whole number from 1 to 99; below the 5th or above the 95th the table has no points, so the page says so instead of guessing. The calculator uses the same engine as the PlyoMetricAI app. Last reviewed 20 October 2026.
Questions
What is a good vertical jump for my age?
Use the 80th percentile (P80) for your age and sex as a good jump. For boys aged 14–15 that is 20.1 in, for girls aged 14–15 15.6 in, for men aged 20–24 22.4 in and for women aged 20–24 14.4 in. The P95 column is the top 5% of the general population.
What is the average vertical jump by age?
The median (P50) rises from 11.5 in for boys aged 8–9 to 19.4 in for men aged 20–24, and from 11.0 in for girls aged 8–9 to a peak of 13.7 in at 12–13 for girls. After the mid-twenties it falls slowly for both.
How is the percentile calculated?
Your jump is converted to centimetres and placed between the two nearest published points for your age band and sex, then interpolated in a straight line and rounded. With sex not given, the boys/men and girls/women curves count equally.
Does arm swing count?
Yes. The survey allowed an arm swing on a single countermovement jump, so compare a jump with your arms, from standing, not a run-up.
Is this a ranking against other people?
No. It compares one number with a published national sample. Nobody else's jump is shown or stored, and the page sends nothing anywhere.
Why do the tables start at 8 and stop at 69?
Those are the ages Statistics Canada published percentiles for. Outside that range there is no published value to compare with.
