Overview
Somnary ("Somnary," "the App") is developed by Adelyons Software LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). Somnary is a private, local-first, no-account dream journal and lucid-dream trainer. It lets you capture a dream the instant you wake, get a free, transparent Dream Decoder reading on every entry, watch your own recurring symbols and patterns build over time, and train lucidity with a reality-check trainer. This policy explains how the App handles your information. The short answer: it doesn't leave your phone.
The short version: Somnary is local-first. There is no account, no login, no cloud, no server, and no analytics. Everything you enter — your dream entries, moods, tags, ratings, the Dream Decoder readings, and your patterns — is stored only on your device and never leaves the phone. The single exception is purchase and subscription data, which is handled by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat solely to validate an optional Somnary+ purchase. We never receive, sell, or have access to your dreams.
Creative reflection, not clinical advice. Somnary is a private journaling and self-reflection tool. Its Dream Decoder readings and patterns are offered as creative reflection only and are not medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice.
Information Stored On Your Device
The following is created and stored locally on your device only, in a private database (SQLite) within the App. It is not transmitted to us or to any server:
- Dream entries: The title, body, date dreamed, mood, vividness, lucidity, nightmare flag, and freeform tags for each dream you record.
- Drafts: Your in-progress entry, autosaved on every change and restored after a crash, back-button, or notification.
- Dream Decoder readings: The symbols detected in your dreams and the creative reflections derived from them and from your own history.
- Patterns & analytics: Your recurring symbols, symbol-and-mood co-occurrence, lucidity rate, recall streaks, and vividness and nightmare trends — all computed on-device from your own entries.
- Reality-check schedule: The reality-check cues and reminder times you set up.
- Backups & exports: The automatic on-device backup and any encrypted export bundles (
.somnary) you create, which you save and move yourself. - App settings & preferences: Your privacy lock, dark mode and palette choices, and other in-app preferences.
Because this data lives only on your device, it is removed when you delete an entry in the App, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App.
No Account, No Cloud, No Server
- Somnary does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide an email address, phone number, name, or any other identifier. There is no contacts grab.
- We do not operate a server that receives, stores, or backs up your data. There is no backend anywhere in the App.
- Your data is not synced between devices by us. If your device's operating system backs up app data (for example through iCloud or Android backup that you have enabled), that backup is controlled by you and your platform provider under their policies — not by us.
- Somnary keeps an automatic on-device backup and lets you create your own encrypted export (a passphrase-protected
.somnarybundle) that you save and move to a new phone yourself. Backup, export, import, and dark mode are free for everyone and are never paywalled.
The Dream Decoder Is Deterministic & On-Device — No AI Model
Every insight in Somnary — the symbols detected in a dream, each creative reflection, your recurring-symbol patterns, lucidity rate, streaks, and trends — is produced by deterministic, rule-based logic that runs entirely on your device. It detects symbols from a curated offline library and renders reflections through a template bank. Identical input always produces identical output. There is no language model, no AI model, and no model download anywhere in the App, and these features require no network connection and no API key. Nothing about your dreams is sent anywhere to compute a reading.
Optional Purchases (Somnary+)
Somnary's core is free, with an optional Somnary+ upgrade. Purchases are the only feature that involves any data leaving your device, and they are handled by trusted providers:
- Apple App Store / Google Play: When you subscribe or make the lifetime purchase, the transaction is processed entirely by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies. We never receive or store your payment-card details.
- RevenueCat: We use RevenueCat to validate and restore your Somnary+ entitlement. RevenueCat receives a purchase token, an anonymous app-generated user identifier, and basic device and purchase metadata needed to deliver and restore your purchase. It does not receive any of your dreams — no entries, moods, tags, readings, patterns, or reality-check schedules. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
If you never make a purchase, no purchase-related data is sent. Subscription terms (including the 7-day annual trial and auto-renewal) are described in our Terms of Service and EULA, and are also governed by Apple's Media Services Terms and Google Play's Terms of Service.
What We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect, upload, or store your dreams or any of your data on any server.
- We do not require an account, email address, phone number, name, or login, and we do not request access to your contacts.
- We do not collect location data.
- We do not use advertising identifiers or any cross-app tracking, and we do not show ads.
- We do not use third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs in the App that send your usage or personal data to us.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone. There is nothing for us to sell — your data stays on your phone.
Data Retention & Deletion
Because your dreams, readings, patterns, schedules, settings, and backups are stored only on your device, you control them directly and they are kept for as long as you keep them:
- Delete in-app: Remove individual entries at any time, or clear the App's data from within the App or your device settings.
- Uninstall: Deleting the App from your device permanently removes all of its locally stored data. Because there is no server, there is no server-side copy to delete and no account to close — which is also why there is no "delete account" page.
- Purchase records: Subscription and purchase records held by Apple, Google, or RevenueCat are retained under their respective policies. You can manage or cancel a subscription from your device's store settings.
Security
Your data stays within the App's private storage on your device, protected by your device's operating system and, if you enable it, Somnary's privacy lock that gates viewing. Export bundles are encrypted with a passphrase you choose. Communication with the App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat for purchase handling uses encrypted (TLS) connections. No system can guarantee absolute security, but keeping your data on-device means there is no central database of your dreams to breach.
Children's Privacy
Somnary is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children, and it does not request that children provide information to us. Because everything is local and there is no server, we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — there is nowhere for such data to be sent to us. If you believe information somehow reached us (which our architecture is designed to prevent), contact us using the details below and we will help.
Your Rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR (EU/EEA/UK) and CCPA/CPRA (California) give you rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data, and to opt out of its sale. Because Somnary does not collect or store your personal data on our servers, we hold nothing about you to disclose, correct, or sell. You can exercise full control over your in-app data using the deletion and encrypted export options above. For any purchase data held by Apple, Google, or RevenueCat, contact those providers or reach us using the details below and we will help.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the App evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, through an in-app notice. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
