Find your best time to call, across any two time zones
Pick where each of you is and when you are awake and at work. You get the hours you share, the two or three best call windows in plain words, and a week grid you can print and stick on the fridge. Daylight saving is handled for the week you pick.

Columns are New York hours; the small figure in each cell is the time in London. both freeboth awake, one at workLondon asleep
How the finder decides
Each day starts at your wake-up time and is split into half hours. A half hour counts as shared when both of you are inside your awake hours, and as free when neither of you is inside your work hours on your own weekday, so a Friday evening for you that is Saturday morning for them counts as free on their side.
The best windows weigh comfort, not just overlap: a free evening beats an early morning, and a lunch break beats the middle of a work block. The weekend window looks at your Saturday. Work hours are a guess at a typical week; change them to fit shifts, school or a deployment.
Stop doing the math every day
The Long Goodbye keeps your person’s local time and time of day on your home-screen widget and lock screen, so you can see whether it is morning coffee or midnight for them before you call. A “thinking of you” tap lights up their widget, and a countdown keeps the next visit in view.
How do I find the best time to call someone in another time zone?
List the hours each of you is awake, take out the hours either of you is at work, and see what is left in both clocks at once. The finder on this page does exactly that for any two cities or IANA time zones and picks the two best weekday hours and the best weekend stretch.
Does the overlap finder handle daylight saving time?
Yes. Every conversion uses your browser's time-zone database for the dates of the week you pick, so a week that crosses a clock change is drawn with the change in it. Pick a week in March or late October to see the weeks when Europe and North America are briefly an hour closer than usual.
What counts as free in the week grid?
A bright cell is an hour when both of you are awake and neither is inside the work hours you picked, on that person's own weekday. A pale cell means you are both awake but one of you is probably at work. Grey means the other person is asleep.
Is anything I type sent to a server?
No. The finder runs entirely in your browser. The cities and hours you choose are not sent or stored.
What if we have no overlap at all?
With typical hours most pairs share at least a few waking hours, even twelve hours apart: one person's early morning meets the other's late evening. If the finder shows none, move one bedtime or wake-up time by an hour or two and the window usually opens.
