Visa-wait countdown for couples

For a K-1, a spouse visa or any long wait to be in the same country. Put in the day the wait started and, if you have one, the date you are hoping for. You get the days waited, the days to go, a progress bar and your own case stages, and you can share it with the person on the other side of it.

Case stages

Add each step with the date it happened, or the date you expect it. Stage names vary by country and visa; the buttons only fill in common U.S. names for you to date.

Works in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere; “Remember” keeps it in this browser only.

Where the real dates come from

This page does not estimate processing times or say how long any visa takes; that changes, and it depends on the case. For a U.S. visa the official sources are:

Other countries publish their own; use your government’s visa pages. Whatever they say, put your own best guess in as the hoped-for date and move it when the case moves. More in the guide: counting down a visa wait together.

What The Long Goodbye does today

The app is for two people a long way apart, and a visa wait is one of the reasons it exists. Once you pair, each of you sees the other’s local time and time of day, a “thinking of you” tap that lights up the other’s home-screen widget, and a countdown to the day you are together, on the home-screen widget and the lock screen. Countdown milestones arrive as notifications. Everything is private to the two of you; there is no feed and no public profile.

It is not a messaging app and not an emergency or location service, and it does not know where anyone is: presence comes from each phone’s time zone, not GPS. One countdown is free; Together+ adds several countdowns and recurring ones.

Keep the wait in view on both your phones

Pair once, and their local time, their last tap and the days until you are together sit on your home screen and lock screen, without opening anything.

Questions

How do I count down a visa wait?

Enter the day your wait started, such as the day you filed, and if you like a date you are hoping for. With only a start date the page counts the days you have waited. With both it shows the days to go and a progress bar. Add your case stages with their dates as they happen and they appear on the bar and in the list.

How long does a K-1 or spouse visa take?

This page does not say, because it changes and depends on the case. For the United States, USCIS publishes current processing times for each form and service center, and the U.S. Department of State publishes interview wait times by embassy. Use those for your own estimate and put that date into the countdown; move it when things change.

What are the stages of a K-1 visa?

The common steps are filing Form I-129F, a receipt notice (often called NOA1), an approval notice (NOA2), the case moving through the National Visa Center to the embassy or consulate, the interview and the visa being issued. Check the U.S. Department of State K-1 page for the current process; the preset on this page only fills in names so you can add dates.

Is my case information sent anywhere?

No. Everything is worked out in your browser. If you tick Remember on this device, your entries are kept in this browser’s own storage and nowhere else. Do not type receipt numbers or anything you would not write on a fridge calendar; the page does not need them.

Can I share the countdown with my partner?

Yes. Make a share link and send it. A normal link carries the hoped-for date after the # in the address, which browsers do not send to the website. A private link carries no date at all, only how far along you are today.
