The Old King is dead. His crown shattered into eight shards, and eight usurpers took them. You are the last of the royal line, marching north with nine pieces and a fairy who will weave magic into your soldiers for gold.
Win by checkmate or not at all
Stalemate is a defeat. A repetition is a defeat. Running out of moves is a defeat. Your army does not have to survive - it has to be lethal. That one rule turns every upgrade into a question about killing rather than about safety.
Build a broken army
Twenty-five abilities, woven onto the specific pieces you choose, two per piece. Vanguard pawns that step diagonally. Berserkers that move again after a kill. Spectral bishops that slide through your own ranks. Necromancers that raise a pawn on every capture. Snipers that take a piece without moving at all.
Ten relics, four consumables, and a shop that never offers the same run twice. Your army carries between battles. It is your deck, and it grows.
March the broken crown
A branching nine-row campaign through the Greenmarch, the Ashen Wastes and the Blighted Vale. Warchief Gorr blocks the middle. The Lich King waits at the end - and he survives the first checkmate, so you must kill a king twice.
Then defend what you won
Win, and the map becomes a siege chart. Crown Defense is the endless mode: seasons of attackers, rising Heat, castle walls that break instead of ending your reign, and Champions who drop trophies. Bank the spoils as Tribute and spend it in the Throne Hall on decrees that outlast the reign.
