Frequently asked questions
How are Stableford points calculated?
Points on a hole are 2 plus par plus the handicap strokes you receive, minus your gross score, and never less than zero. A net double bogey or worse scores 0, a net bogey 1, a net par 2, a net birdie 3, a net eagle 4 and a net albatross 5.
How do handicap strokes work in Stableford?
Your playing handicap is spread across the holes by stroke index. With a playing handicap of 18 or less you receive one stroke on each hole whose stroke index is at or below your handicap. With 20, you receive one stroke on every hole plus a second on stroke index 1 and 2. A plus handicap gives strokes back, starting with stroke index 18.
What is a good Stableford score?
36 points over 18 holes means you played to your handicap, since a net par on every hole is worth 2 points. Anything above 36 is a better than handicap round, and club competitions are often won somewhere in the high 30s or low 40s.
What handicap allowance applies to Stableford?
The World Handicap System recommends 95% of your course handicap for individual Stableford, rounded to the nearest whole number. Your club or competition committee sets the allowance it actually uses, so check before you play.
