Recall checker: is my product recalled?
Type the brand, the product and, if you have it, the model number from the label or the receipt. The page downloads the public CPSC recall list (US consumer products, last two years) into your browser and compares it here. For a car, truck or motorcycle with a make, model and year it also asks NHTSA. Every match shows what matched and why.
Where the recall lists come from
- CPSC, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, publishes every consumer-product recall as public data at saferproducts.gov. This page reads notices dated within the last two years.
- NHTSA, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, publishes vehicle recalls by make, model and year at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Only the make, model and year you typed are sent; a recall there applies to a range of VINs, so check yours against the notice.
- Not covered: food, drugs, cosmetics and medical devices (FDA), and recall lists outside the US. Health Canada and the EU Safety Gate publish searchable sites but no open feed a browser can read.
What this page does with what you type
Nothing leaves your browser except the request for the public CPSC list and, for a vehicle, the make, model and year sent to NHTSA. We store nothing. The matching rules are the same ones the Warranty Drawer app runs on your phone, and they are deliberately conservative: a store name alone is never a brand, a bare number only counts as a model when the brand matches too, and a brand without any product word in common is not a match.
How to check a product by hand
- Find the model number: on a sticker or plate on the product (underneath, on the back, inside a door), on the box, or on the receipt line.
- Search the brand at cpsc.gov/Recalls; for a vehicle, enter the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Open the notice and compare its model numbers, date codes or serial ranges with your label.
- If yours is covered, follow the remedy in the notice: most are a free repair, replacement or refund, and you usually do not need the receipt.
Warranty Drawer does this for the things you have already filed. Each time you open the app it downloads the public list to the phone and compares your items there, then shows a recall notice on the cabinet and on the item, with the reason. Your items never leave the phone. Turn it off in Settings if you prefer.
