Dream symbol dictionary
The 30 symbols Somnary's Dream Decoder recognises, A to Z. Each page gives the Decoder's own reflections on what the symbol often reflects, the words it listens for, and prompts to journal it. No ads, no account, no claim to know what your dream means.
The Decoder is a curated offline library, not an AI. It runs on your phone, so the dream you write never leaves it. These pages are built from the same text the app ships with, and nothing is added.
A
- A strangerself
A stranger in a dream is often a disowned piece of yourself — a quality you haven't yet claimed as your own.
- Animalinstinct
Animals often embody instinct — the parts of you that act before thought. The creature's nature hints at which drive is speaking.
B
- Babybeginning
A baby often symbolizes something new and vulnerable in you — a fresh project, idea, or beginning that needs tending.
- Being chasedavoidance
Being chased usually points at something you'd rather not turn and face — a worry, a task, or a feeling that keeps pace with you.
- Bridgetransition
A bridge spans two places — it often marks a transition you're in the middle of crossing.
D
- Darknessunknown
Darkness tends to mark the unknown — not always danger, often simply what hasn't been seen or understood yet.
- Deathtransformation
Death in dreams rarely means literal loss — far more often it marks an ending that clears space, a chapter closing so another can open.
- Doorchoice
A door is a threshold — a choice, an opportunity, or a boundary. One that won't open is often a question still waiting on you.
- Drivingcontrol
A car is often the dream's image of your direction and control. Who was driving, and were the brakes answering?
- Drowningoverwhelm
Drowning or sinking is the dream of overwhelm — feeling in over your head somewhere that matters.
E
- Exposedvulnerability
Being unexpectedly exposed is a vivid vulnerability dream — often a fear of being seen too clearly, or of a hidden self showing.
F
- Fallingcontrol
Falling is one of the most common dream sensations — often a flicker of lost footing, a place you feel less in control than you'd like.
- Fireintensity
Fire is intensity — passion, anger, or transformation. Notice whether it warmed, consumed, or cleared the way.
- Flyingfreedom
Flying often arrives with a sense of release — a part of you reaching for distance, perspective, or freedom from something heavy.
- Foodnourishment
Food often symbolizes nourishment of a deeper kind — what feeds you emotionally, creatively, or spiritually.
H

A house in a dream is often a picture of the self — each room a different part of you. New rooms can mean newly discovered capacity.
L
- Lightclarity
Light often signals clarity or hope breaking through — notice where it fell and what it revealed.
- Lostsearching
Being lost mirrors a search for direction — a place awake where the path isn't obvious yet.
M

A mirror asks you to look at yourself — sometimes kindly, sometimes more honestly than waking life allows.
- Moneyworth
Money in dreams often tracks worth and value — not just finances, but how you measure what you have to give.
P
- Phoneconnection
A phone is the dream's line of connection — notice if the call got through or kept failing.
R
- Running latepressure
Running late — missing a train or flight — is a pressure dream, often about a chance you fear slipping past.
S
- Snaketransformation
The snake is an old symbol of transformation — it sheds its skin. It can point to healing, hidden fear, or a self you're outgrowing.
- Spidercreation
The spider weaves — it can mark patient creation, or a feeling of being caught in something intricate.

T

Teeth — falling out or crumbling — are a classic anxiety motif, often tied to change, appearance, or how heard you feel.

Exams and classrooms often resurface when you feel evaluated — measured against a standard, unprepared, or back in a familiar pressure.
W
- Wateremotion
Water is the dream's emotional weather. Calm or churning, it often mirrors how feelings are moving through you right now.
Bringing an old journal with you
If your dreams are in another app, Somnary can import a CSV, text or JSON export on the phone, so the Decoder can read your history too. See how to import your dream journal.
Questions
Is this dream dictionary free?
Yes. Every page here is public, and the same reflections appear in full, for free, inside Somnary whenever a dream you write mentions one of these symbols. Nothing about the Decoder is paywalled.
Where do these dream meanings come from?
From Somnary's Dream Decoder, a hand-written library of 30 symbols with three reflections each. They are creative prompts for the dreamer's own reading, not an authority on what dreams mean. The pages are generated from the same text the app ships with.
Why are there no statistics about how common each dream is?
Because Somnary has none. Dreams are stored only on the phone and never sent anywhere, so there is nothing to count. The app does show you how often you personally have dreamt each symbol.
Can the dictionary read my dream?
Not on the web. In the app, the Decoder reads the dream you write on your phone and shows its reflections there, offline. The dream never leaves the device.
Decode your own dream, privately
Somnary's Dream Decoder reads the dream you write and shows you these reflections, in full and for free, on your phone. There is no account and no cloud, so the dream itself never leaves the device, and the app shows how often you have dreamt each symbol: the only statistic that is actually yours.
