Nightband

Once is listening. Twice is answering.

A Creepy Radio Tuning Game & Push-Your-Luck Night Drive

Nightband is a creepy radio game set on a desert highway at 3 a.m. You drive a 1974 radio van through the dark, and the only thing you control is the dial. Drag your thumb across the AM band — 530 to 1700 kHz — and hold a drifting signal for 1.2 seconds to catch it. Every signal is a real orphaned broadcast: a last call nobody heard, a forecast for a town that does not exist. Catching one is taking attendance. But catch the same frequency twice and you close a loop — and something in the static can trace an answer straight back to your dial. It is a radio dial game, a push your luck game, and an atmospheric horror game with no jumpscares, all at once. Offline, no account, no ads.

What it is:

  • One-thumb frequency tuning — the van drives itself; you are the radio
  • The duplicate rule — once is listening, twice is answering, and a closed loop ends the night in a flood of static
  • Push your luck — pull over and bank, or drive one more leg for a bigger multiplier and rarer signals
  • Collect radio signals — six families across 118 catchable frequencies, all pinned on the Frequency Atlas
  • A voiced four-season serial in the noise — an audio drama you play. Season 1 is free forever
  • The Daily Night — a daily challenge that works offline, one deterministic desert per day, identical for everyone on Earth
  • 100% offline — no wifi, no account, no server, no ads; nothing leaves your phone

Coming soon to the App Store & Google Play.

Dread, not gore. Nightband is rated 12+ for infrequent, mild horror themes. There are no jump-scares, no screamers, and no violence — the horror here is loneliness at broadcast scale, and every scare is also a little bit heartbreaking.
Nightband gameplay — the drive screen at night: the radio van on the desert highway, two glowing signal-wisps drifting with their frequencies printed beside them, and the amber needle mid-capture on the phosphor-green band strip, with the pot, leg, multiplier and duplicate odds in the HUD

How It Works

📻 The Dial Is the Whole Game

The right of the screen is a phosphor-green frequency ruler, 530 kHz to 1700 kHz, with an amber needle. Drag anywhere to tune. The dial thickens as you near a signal, and detents tick every 10 kHz, exactly like the real AM grid. Hold within ±6 kHz for 1.2 seconds and the noise resolves into a voice.

⚡ Once Is Listening. Twice Is Answering.

Every frequency you catch leaves a scar on the dial. Catch that same frequency again and you complete a circuit — a closed loop, with your receiver as the fixed node. Reading your own scars under pressure is the entire skill. Get it wrong and the static blooms across the desert like frost on glass.

🛞 Bank It, or Drive One More Leg

Rest stops come every 40–50 seconds. Pull over and the pot is safe forever. Drive on and the multiplier climbs, the band skews toward rarer signals — and the odds that the next one is a duplicate climb with it. Bust, and the whole unbanked pot is gone. No lives. No revives. Ever.

🎙️ A Voice in the Noise

Between the numbers, a transmission finds you — 20 to 40 seconds of an overnight AM host talking to an audience he cannot prove exists. Four seasons of it, told in the register of a radio show. Season 1, all seven transmissions, is free forever, and it ends on the best cliffhanger in the show.

🗺️ The Frequency Atlas

Six families across 118 catchable frequencies — Ghost Ads, Weather From Nowhere, Hymnals, Lost DJs, Clear-Channel Ghosts and Numbers Stations. Every catch lights a pin, forever. Complete a family and it plays you a sign-off you will hear exactly once.

🌙 The Daily Night

One shared, deterministic desert per calendar day, generated from the date itself and identical for everyone alive tonight. One scored attempt, a leaderboard, and an emoji grid you can paste straight into a chat. It runs with no wifi, like everything else here.
